Day 72...Planks...Wall Sits and My Secret for Creating Great Characters...

Welcome to Day 72...

Up for another challenge?

Let's talk getting and staying healthy...

So aside from the Drop 10 Workout I posted on Day 65, I've been adding a few other moves for building a strong core and healthy body.

It involve more challenges...

Wall Sits and Planks...

Wall Sits are an exercise designed to strengthen your core and quad muscles.  It's one simple move of "sitting" against a wall and holding the position.

Planks...are a bit more challenging exercise that strengthens deep core muscles whereby you maintain "plank" position for extended time periods.

Why not try and add then to your daily routine?  You'll be amazed at the results.

As far as our Writing Challenge...it's an odd day and I got in just under 700 words.  Not stellar, but progress and progress is always good.

Now on to My Secrets for Creating Great Characters...

Make them slightly perfect...
Great looking, smart, successful, hard working, give them a to-die for apartment or house. For the reader it's fun to fantasize and get lost in someone else's perfect world.

Make them imperfect...
Give them enough angst, imperfection and/or baggage to make them relate-able, even funny.

Make them the guy/gal you're reader wants to be friends with...
Make them likable enough that your reader wants to spend time with your characters.  Make your readers want to turn the page, feel the characters pain or happiness and root for them.

Make them slightly quirky or the polar opposite of those around them...
Give them a penchant for drinking too much coffee...or being forgetful...or the the misfit one who's late or disorganized in a family filled with high achievers.

Make them have a strong sense of self...
Give them strengths and weaknesses that make them unique - like a strong sense of family or a difficult childhood that defines their independent nature.

Make them complex, even complicated...
Fill their past with angst and secrets so that their present is more of a struggle.

Fill them with passion...
About something, anything...give them purpose and a journey that the reader wants to share.

And here's my bonus tip...

Need help crafting interesting people?  Spend time reading about interesting people.

I've always loved reading biographies about successful and famous folks.  And one of the absolute BEST places to read about real life, crazy, fascinating, filthy rich, famous, royal, brilliant folks is in Vanity Fair magazine.

They do great features on titans of industry, Hollywood big-wigs, actors, designers, royals, heiresses.

That's all for now...
