Starting things a little differently today – with a quote. And not
just any quote, one from Steve Jobs, a guy who clearly had vision and passion. Not
only for his work but his life.
“Your
work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly
satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great
work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t
settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” Steve Jobs
His life and his work. For Steve Jobs, the two were so entwined. Where
work is play and play is work. That’s the perfectly synchronized spot we should
all be.
But
the thing is, we can’t always do the work we love - at least not how we want or
when we want. This thing called life and the financial obligations that come
along with it sometimes get in the way.
I
have a full time day job. A job which I really enjoy. My part time gig? Well of
course that’s my writing. A job I absolutely love. I’m not even sure you can
call it a job. It’s my playtime.
For
me the day job pays the bills and covers my family’s medical and dental.
My
writing is a calling that I’m drawn to over and over again.
Sometime
soon, my writing will become my full time source of income. And then I can play
all day. But until then, I make the time to do this great work that I love.
You
should do the same.
Find
your passion, a great work that you love and then work hard to build it into
your life.
Take
courses, work part time, study your craft, network, join groups, find a mentor.
Do it all and slowly build it into your days. You’ll be well on your way to
designing the life you love.
Here's Today's Takeaway Lesson...
"...the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle"
