Welcome to Day 207...& Breaking Bad Writing Habits...
A lot of what I share in 365 Days of Writing, Marketing & E-Publishing focuses on great writing tips and good writing habits...
In fact there's a lot of great ideas on Day 80...Day 82...Day 114...Day 155...Day 162...Day 166 & Day 173
That said, here's some not so great habits you'll want to avoid...
Writing Only When The Inspiration Strikes
To be a successful writer, a prolific writer, it takes hard work and discipline. Which means you can't wait around for the right mood, the right feeling, the right time. To get your novel started and completed have a regular writing schedule and show up ready to work even when you don't feel like it.
Not Writing or Even Giving Up When The Writing Gets Tough
A seemingly unworkable scene, a disjointed plot line...we've all been there - the point when it just doesn't seem to be working. But you can't stop altogether. Take a step back and take a logical approach...work through some ideas or start with fixing an easy scene. Once you've done that move on to a tougher one. Make a list of what needs to be worked out and systematically attack the problems one by one.
Holding On to Junk
Okay that's a little harsh, maybe that scene that you spent a whole week developing and polishing isn't junk, but you know in your heart and mind, it just doesn't fit. Which means you have to let it go - for this story at least - you can save it to a notes doc, but the point is, cut ties and move on.
Tomorrow...more bad habits to avoid.
