Day 217... Signs You're in Full Blown Procrastination Mode

Welcome to Day 217...

Recently, my computer has been like a giant boulder sitting in the middle of the room...I pass it, I walk around it, I can't not see it...

I know I should be writing more.  I'm so very close to finishing my manuscript, but between work, home, the kid's schedules, and 2 lovable but needy dogs, I've been feeling over committed lately...very over committed.

And part of me wanted to shut down something.  Anything.  And I ended up choosing my book. Why?  Because it's the one thing that I really don't have an outward obligation to...

It won't fire me for lack of performance (something I can't say about my day job)...
I don't need to feed it or make sure it doesn't miss the bus...
I e-publish so I don't have a contract or fixed deadline dates...

Which is why, over the past week, I've neglected the heck out of my writing.  And now I'm in full blown avoidance mode.  Or call it procrastination. It doesn't matter.  All I know is that my writing momentum has been lost. And all this avoidance is adding days, weeks, even months to the goal I had set out to do.

So here's the big question.  Are you in Full Blown Procrastination Mode?  Here are some tell tale signs...

  • You're checking social media so often you begin to notice only one new item is appearing each time on the feed.
  • You're doing mindless internet searches...like for real estate and you're not planning on moving in the distant future or for a new car that you don't have any intention of driving.
  • You're taking long breaks...really long breaks that aren't relative to the time and effort of work you're putting in.
  • Everything, and I mean everything else comes first before your writing... laundry...cleaning out closets...filing...grocery shopping...making long over due appointments for cars and the dentist...you get the picture.
  • Downplaying just how much the goal of writing and releasing your book really means to you.
As they say...the first part of fixing a problem is admitting you have one.

Here's Today's Takeaway Lesson...

"Stop Looking For Someone to Blame And Fix It"
