Welcome to Day 137...
So there's been some buzz in the news recently about a recent episode of Shark Tank. That's because the sharks made one of the largest investments in a product ever offered to a growing business.
So what had the usually skeptical sharks so excited?
A single serving, glass shaped wine container. The thing is, in a way it's such a simple idea - wine has been around for ages...and single serve containers are everywhere from soda to beer to water.
Which means, the creation of great ideas may be closer than you think...
Sometimes it's just a matter of combining two existing ideas to create a bigger and better idea.
It's like a mashup...
A mashup is used all the time in music. It's when a song or composition is created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs. Vocal tracks of one song will be blended into the tracks or instrumental of another song.
I love the idea of the mash up with my story creation...like taking a story of a real life heist in the Diamond District and adding in a real life story of mistaken identity - which is exactly what I did in my last novel Now You See Me.
I'm not the only fan of the mash up concept.
It's what's behind the wildly successful Hunger Games trilogy. Where did Collins get her idea for the story from? Here's what she said in an interview...
One night, I was lying in bed, and I was channel surfing between reality TV programs and actual war coverage. On one channel, there’s a group of young people competing for I don’t even know; and on the next, there’s a group of young people fighting in an actual war. I was really tired, and the lines between these stories started to blur in a very unsettling way. That’s the moment when Katniss’s story came to me.
So why not use the mashup in your next quest for a great idea. Here's more info on Zipz and the Shark Tank experience http://www.lohud.com/story/news/local/2014/12/09/shark-tank-zipz-wine-gets-record-deal/20159593/
