Welcome to Day 180...
So...I'm connected on LinkedIn with my day job.
As many of you may know, LinkedIn is a business focused online networking site. The goal is to connect with individuals (connections) who are in your field and who could be valuable business contacts.
You create profiles which includes a list of your skills and your connections can then "endorse" you for those skills. Most folks use LinkedIn to find jobs, explore business opportunities and market their ideas or
Based on your current list of connections, the site also recommend other connections for you to link with.
And while I have a profile on the site, I'm not particularly active on it.
And that's where my story begins...
The other day at work I received a connection request from someone I don't know. Which lead me to poking around the site a little bit more than usually do.
In my exploration, I inadvertently clicked on a tab. But it was just any tab. I was one that emailed connection invites...hundreds of invites...and many to folks I don't know and who most likely don't know me.
Needless to say, my work in-box has been flooded with acceptances of those invitation request.
Which isn't necessarily a terrible thing - I mean now have all these connections, but... my rookie mistake could lead to my account being restricted or closed.
That's because instead of accepting my invite, folks can response with "I don't know" or a "spam" response. Too many of those negative responses and the LinkedIn admins will shut down my account
.
So what's the lesson? Well for me, I've now mandated 3 No's of Social Media.
Here goes...
No execution of tweets, emails, posts until... I understand precisely how to navigate the site. Note to self - this may take time and multiple test runs....
No execution of tweets, emails, posts until... I have a plan in place for leveraging the site. And that comes down to updating my marketing platform. I have an old one in place for Blogger & Facebook, but as far as Twitter & Instagram - I've barely scrapped the surface. Note to self...once NEVER LET ME GO is complete - launch an all out marketing blitz using social media.
No avoidance... And by that I mean, yes it's a new playing field and yes there's a learning curve, but when it comes to my books, I can't pass up the opportunity to "expand the reach" and "build the buzz". Note to self...ask the kids how this stuff really works.
And finally...
Here's Today's Takeaway Lesson...
"No Regret, Just Lesson's Learned"
Here's to Being All In,
