Welcome to Day 182...
Okay, let's get to it. Deflategate.
Let me start by saying I'm a football fan. Not a football expert, simply a football fan.
According to the officials, the balls were deflated below game standards. The Patriot's organization and QB Tom Brady say they really don't know what happened and really weren't aware of softness of the ball.
I admit, my B.S. radar went into overdrive and like most folks I was curious about what the Pat's and specifically Tom Brady had to say about the deflated footballs.
Make no mistake, Tom Brady has a reputation as a consummate QB - professional, poised, and somewhat of an expert when it comes to the position.
So he really didn't know?
I guess there wasn't much else he could say...
It came down to two possibilities of what really went happened...
He actually cheated and deflated the balls and now he's lying about it or...
He's incompetent...
Most QBs say there is possibly no way he didn't know the balls had less air. The grip and feel of the ball is an integral part of the job you do.
But maybe for Brady it came down to which is the worst of two evils - being a liar or not being good at your job.
Well actually there's still the 3rd option...telling the truth.
And here's the thing about the truth. It has this metaphysical property. It almost can't be hidden or changed or altered. Truth - relative to time, to space, to events - places an indelible mark in the universe and no matter how we try to muddy the waters, truth always seems to find it's way to the surface.
So now matter what you do - QB for the NFL, accountant, teacher, writer - at the end of the day maybe it just makes sense to choose the right path.
Besides, they're gonna find out anyway. Which reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite movies...Moonstruck
Loretta Castorini:
What am I going to tell him?
What am I going to tell him?
Cosmo Castorini:
Tell him the truth. They find out anyway.
Tell him the truth. They find out anyway.
Here's Today's Takeaway Lesson...
