Welcome to Day 185...
It happens every time...every damn time.
Just as I'm rounding the corner towards the last chapter of one of my novels, I get consumed with doubt. And it isn't just any kind of doubt, it's the kind that sets off all sorts of warning signs in my brain...
Is this story, this ending all a bunch of B.S.? How credible is the plot? Did I entwine one too many characters or ideas.
But then as I get close to the end I wonder, does it all come together seamlessly? Is it fun? Sexy? A page turner?
Look I have a book to finish and I can't get caught up in all this doubt so...
Here's my antidote...
I Start Re-Reading the Manuscript...
I need to do this anyway to work through my initial edit before it goes off to my outside editor. And when I do, it all comes back to me...the initial excitement about piecing the story together...pride that this thing just may have some legs to it and...a confidence that I've done this before...successfully I may add and this just might be the book that pushes me to a new level of success.
I Read Reviews From My Earlier Releases...
First the negative ones...as a reminder of what I need to watch out for...then the positive ones...those amazing reviews from those wonderful fans asking that I hurry up and get my next book out there...
I Read the Newspaper & Watch the News...
My stories and plot lines not credible?
It's amazing what the hell goes on in the real world. Dig deep enough and you find rampant fraud among politicians, payoffs from multinational banks and corporations, sealed documents from the Justice Dept...so what that NEVER LET YOU GO has some cybercrime, a money hungry and dangerous politician and a political cover-up that goes all the way to the White House.
Stay tuned...
Here's Today's Takeaway Lesson...
